MATCH REPORT: Stockport County 1 Aldershot Town 2

Aldershot Town recovered from last week’s defeat with an impressive 2-1 victory against Stockport County after stunning finishes from the returning Harrison Panayiotou and a long-range screamer from Alefe Santos.

The Shots were dominant from the word go and would get their rewards for their early pressure with a fantastic finish by the returning Panayiotou, who showed great composure to volley into the far corner in the 30th minute.

It would get even better for the away side just two minutes later as Alefe Santos skipped past a Stockport challenge before unleashing a powerful 25-yard strike which flew past goalkeeper Ben Hinchcliffe in the Stockport goal and deservedly double the Shots’ lead.

Aldershot could’ve even gone three goals to the good after a miscommunication saw Panayiotou just a few yards away with the goal at his mercy, but the forward was unable to take his opportunity.

There was just enough time for a late Stockport chance to pull a goal back, but Mitch Walker was forced into a great save with the onrushing Elliot Osbourne unable to convert the follow-up.

The second-half started in the same action-packed manner with opportunities to score coming for both sides.

However Stockport were left damaged by the fact their captain Paul Turnbull was forced into a substitution following an injury that left him on the floor for a couple of minutes.

This led to the home side bringing on another striker in Joe Piggott who saw his fantastic 25-yard effort expertly saved by Walker once again who followed that up with another strong stop from Nyal Bell in the 65th minute.

There was time for the home side to pull one back through a great strike from Wigan loanee Joe Piggott, but ultimately it saw the Shots able to pick up their third win of the season and their third away from home as they look ahead to their next away fixture against Barnet on Tuesday.
