MATCH PREVIEW: Shots v Notts County (H)

WHO ARE THE SHOTS PLAYING?

Shots return to action at the EBB on Saturday against high flying Notts County. The Magpies currently sit atop the National League table, two points ahead of Wrexham having played a game more than the Welsh outfit.

Despite the league success of the side, the FA Cup saw them exit at the fourth qualifying round, as they lost 3-2 at home to Coalville Town. The FA Trophy warranted no such disappointment for Luke Williams side, as they beat Chorley 2-1 to progress to the next round.

LAST TIME OUT:

Aldershot’s trip to Meadow Lane in September ended in a 2-0 victory for Notts County. The sides went into the break at 0-0 in the reverse fixture, before second half goals from Cedwyn Scott and Macaulay Langstaff saw the Magpies walk away with all three points.

However, Notts County’s last trip to the EBB ended in victory for Aldershot. First half goals from Mikael Ndjoli and Tommy Willard either side of a Callum Roberts, meant the Shots held a 2-1 advantage after 45 minutes. An 88th minute Sinclair Armstrong goal for Aldershot ensured all the points for The Shots.

NOTTS COUNTY FORM GUIDE:

Last 5: 4W, 1D, 0L.

Notts County, as the league suggests, are arguably the league’s best side, having lost just once in the National League this season. The Magpies had won four National League games in a row before dropping points to Oldham last time out. One sign of hope for the Shots is that Notts County’s form on the road has been worse than their home form, with five of the eight occasions on which they dropped points all coming on the road, including their one loss at Dorking.

ONE TO WATCH: MACAULAY LANGSTAFF

25-year-old striker Macaulay Langstaff is currently the top scorer in the National League, scoring at a rate of nearly a goal a game, having scored 22 in 24 in the league. Langstaff joined the Magpies from Gateshead last summer, earning a move after an impressive 28 goals in 39 games to help fire Gateshead to promotion from the National League North. His scoring form has not let up, seeing him linked to a number of teams in the Football League.
